Odds are you found this article because you are thinking of cleaning your radios. There are different ways to clean different radios but all methods use commonly found household cleaning supplies.
What you’ll need to check before getting started.
First things first, make sure your device is water-proof or water resistant. Most radios are IP rated which lets consumers know how durable they are against environmental elements such as temperature, particles, and liquids. If you have a product rated IP57 or higher you won’t have to worry about any water damage during the cleaning process. If it rated lower than IP57 DO NOT SUBMERGE. We recommend using a spray bottle mixed with warm water and soap.
Common Supplies
- Soap + Water
- Clorox Wipes
- Damp Rag
- Sponge
- Spray Bottle
Here’s how to do it:
- Wet your device using a spray bottle, rag, or by submersing it.
- Gently scrub buttons, body, and knobs with a rag, brush, or sponge. Make sure to get visibly dirty completely clean before continuing.
- Dry device off after a thorough cleanse.
- Repeat every 3 Months or as necessary
Why is cleaning important?
Radios aren’t cheap and keeping them well maintained helps you slow typical wear + tear, prevent debris from getting inside the device, and prolong the life of the radio before a repair is needed. We recommend a thorough cleaning at least once every 3 months and training for carriers on how to take care of the device throughout the day.
